Heritage of York Gate by Val Crompton

A magical one-acre garden near Leeds, York Gate is one of Perennial’s three gardens and was gifted to us by the Spencer family in 1994. This special book weaves together the story of York Gate with colour photographs and poems. Learn about the early history of the area and the development of the garden since 1951.

Val Crompton is a former teacher and local historian who lives close to York Gate. She has watched the development of the garden since the 1950s, making sketches, taking photographs, and writing articles and poems about York Gate and its wildlife for Adel Parish Magazine.
