Garden study day, lunch and afternoon refreshments included

Join Dean Peckett, Head Gardener at Allt-y-bela for a garden study day and to create your own border design. This is a rare opportunity to spend the day immersing yourself in plants with the backdrop of Arne Maynard’s own garden in Monmouthshire. Allt-y-bela is a magical medieval tower house, cradled in a valley between grazed and wooded hillsides. Guests will leave having selected a palette of plants for a border or area of their own garden.

The day will begin with coffee in the garden followed by a full tour of the garden with Dean Peckett and Kristy Ramage, Creative Director of Arne Maynard Garden Design. This is a chance to ask questions about how Arne has laid out the garden at Allt-y-bela, considering the level changes, the underlying garden structure and the evolving planting choices for the different garden areas.

To help you design a planting plan for your own garden, Dean and Kristy will talk you through a selection of planting schemes and border combinations in some of Arne’s iconic gardens.

Before a delicious lunch, you will have a chance to explore the house, with a drink and canapés, to gain an understanding of the important links between the inside and outside spaces and how to draw out and bring together the landscape, location and architectural style of a place.

In the afternoon, you will work on your own border design. Using photographs and plant lists, you will create a mood board for your chosen area and will begin to create a planting plan, considering numbers of plants required to fill your space.

Our day will finish with tea and cakes and a chance to ask questions. An absolute must for anyone with an interest in plants and garden design!
