Thursday 1 August, 11.00am – 3.30pm
Includes tour, lunch and introduction to the nursery and Buddleja collection
Led by Nursery and Landscaping Manager Mark Pitman, guests will explore many elements of this expansive 4,000-acre Waitrose owned estate. One of which is the water gardens, which stream across seven-acres, hosting an array of plants from around the world including over 40 different waterlilies.
Originally created by the Beddington family during the early 1900’s, the water gardens became part of the estate in 1942 and since then the gardens have been nurtured and developed to become known as ‘the finest water gardens in the world’.
The water remains crystal clear, connecting the two islands and woodland valleys: Longstock and Leckford together. Discover the National Collection of Buddleja in the Longstock Nursery. Founded in 1958, the nursery is also home to Clematis viticella and the Gilchrist Collection of Penstemons. They aim to introduce a wide range of unusual and robust plants and are particularly proud of the mature trees, climbing plants, herbaceous border and aquatic ranges.
